Artistic value
Everything happens in the gaze: the face, veiled by a keffiyeh, reveals only the eyes, which alone carry the painting's intensity. The fabric's pattern, meticulously rendered, reads like writing, and the deep green background makes the skin tones vibrate. A large-format work from the Portraits & Identity series, “Gaze of Freedom” combines the precision of portraiture with a strong symbolic charge: a voice expressed entirely through the eyes.
